Brave pensioner steals the show in new documentary about Camilla, Duchess of Cambridge

Tuesday 24th April 2018

A new documentary about Camilla Parker Bowles aired on ITV last night.

But Prince Charles’ wife totally got overshadowed by an amazing elderly woman who tells the royal, during at a tea party in Clarence House, about the time she was attacked by a burglar.

Alice Dowling, 83, speaks candidly to the Duchess of Cambridge about when she, along with brother and sister Mary and George, were attacked in their home by intruders, not once – but twice.

Camilla speaks to them, along with members of the emergency services, about their “horrific” experience, and Alice completely steals the show with her no-nonsense account of the ordeal.

Sister Mary begins by explaining that she was “shoved up against the wall” by one of the perpetrators, adding he "caught my sister's arm", before Alice pipes up with her side of the story.

“He cut [my arm] a little bit but I’ve had worse when I fell down the stairs,” says the ballsy pensioner.

“He said, where’s the money? I said, you’ve taken all the money. He said, you lie to me.

“I did punch one, but I thought I better not do that again because he didn’t even move.”

The Duchess’s face is a picture in the clip released by ITV – and praises her for “giving as much as she got”.

Alice, dressed in a black and white striped top and pearl earrings, goes on to tell Camilla about how the police came to the siblings’ assistance.

“They’ve been so good,” she says.

“They do their best, they can’t do any more than that. And the paras [paramedics].”

She adds cheekily: “I love the paras. They’re strong, they’re fearless, I wish I was 20 years younger.”

The clip wraps up with the Duchess saying it was a “pleasure” to meet the trio, but Alice wasn’t finished with her yet.

“I hope we’ve not corrupted you,” she says.

Camilla laughs and says that’s not the case, and explains that Alice and her brother and sister will be on the documentary, so they will be able to see themselves on film.

“God help ‘em,” Alice replies, raising laughs from the room.

Created by Spun Gold TV and directed by multi-award winning filmmaker Jane Treays, filming for the hour-long documentary was shot throughout The Duchess’s 70th year.

The programme includes the Duchess's rainy walks in Scotland with her beloved Jack Russell terriers and dancing to Elvis tracks with HRH The Prince of Wales.
