Calls for reality TV show where flat earthers hunt for the edge of the world

Friday 9th November 2018

Looking for something to fill the Big Brother-shaped hole?

Well it looks like we could have a new reality TV show on our hands… If a Reddit thread is to be believed, that is.

Entitled ‘A reality show for flat earthers’, Redditors have put together a tongue-in-cheek proposal for a show that would send out people who believe the earth is flat to find the edge.

So basically, flat earthers would have the chance to prove their controversial theory in full view of watchers from around the globe (couldn’t resist).

The thread is based on a tweet by Shower Thoughts and includes some over-the-top ideas for the possible show.

One suggests to give the intrepid travellers $500,000, and prize money of $5 million if they succeed in their mission—but if they fail, they must pay back their initial budget.

Possible names for the series include ‘Over the Edge’ and ‘Push Me To The Edge’.

Another user suggests to set up a crowd fund to make the show happen.

The flat earth debate is not new, but since the rise in social media, the theory has been given a boost on a global (sorry) scale, meaning that believers have a platform to get their 'message' out.

But what exactly do they believe?

According to Live Science, members of the Flat Earth Society claim to believe the earth is a flat disc shape, and that round earth is a conspiracy orchestrated by Nasa and other government agencies.

They go on to say that Antarctica is positioned at the edge of the earth bounded by a 150-foot-tall wall of ice. They say NASA employees guard this ice wall to prevent people from climbing over and falling off the disc.

Ok this reality show probably won’t be made anytime soon (imagine how high the insurance costs would be?) but one thing's for sure, it would certainly take reality TV to the next level.
