It’s been a whirlwind of a series and Lydia Lucy has been blown away by the standard of talent this year.
Ruti Olajugbagbewas crowned the winner of The Voice UK on Saturday night’s final and although Lydia had her money on Belle Voci, she sends her best wishes to the 18-year-old in her final video vlog of the series.
The teen beat bookies’ favourite Donel Mangena, opera duo Belle Voci and Lauren Bannon to win the record deal.
Her first single 'Dreams' is out now released.
“What an amazing series it has been,” said Lydia. “Amazing talent, amazing people, I can’t believe the standard it was this year.
“I was gutted to see Belle Voci go but I did think the two finalists would be Donel and Ruti.”
“Congratulations Sir Tom Jones and to Ruti.”
Despite 16-year-old Donel being the favourite since his blind audition, Lydia says he came across very nervous and thought the moment his nan joined his on stage was a tad bizarre (see video below).
Lydia said: “He did well but he looked very nervous, he didn’t look very confident to me.
“And then his nan got on stage with him and I was like, what is going on? Is this his final performance?
“I was a bit crazed out by it. It’s really cute his nan’s his number one fan but I don’t think she should have got on stage for his winning performance.”
