Here are the favourites to become the next Ukip leader if Henry Bolton quits

Thursday 18th January 2018

Henry Bolton hasn’t even stepped down yet but already there are potential Ukip leaders gleefully rubbing their hands waiting to take his place.

Bookmakers are taking bets on the next party chief after a beleaguered Bolton continues to come under fire to resign after his girlfriend Jo Marney reportedly made racist remarks about Meghan Markle.

Resisting pressure to quit since the story broke, he defended Marney, claiming that the messages did not reflect her “core beliefs”, but told Good Morning Britain on Tuesday that he had ended the relationship.

In the running for the position are David Kurten and Tim Aker, who are both the *3/1 joint favourites for the position with Coral.

Aker has been a UKIP member for a while now and is also an MEP for the party, whilst Kurten ran against current leader Bolton in last year’s leadership election but eventually withdrew.

Harry Aitkenhead said: “David Kurten and Tim Aker are the two frontrunners in our betting to be the next UKIP leader and we predict it would be a fierce leadership election between the pair should Bolton step down.”

The party’s leader crisis has also sparked calls for Nigel Farage to make yet another return to the party, – he’s currently at 4/1.

Nigel Farage is 4/1
Nigel Farage is 4/1

“Farage can’t help but stay in the limelight and we think it’s a genuine option that he would run again once for more for leader,” added Aitkenhead.

Coral are offering odds of 5/1 that Ukip win one or more seats at the next General Election, while it is 16/1 that Farage goes on to win one.
