They royal baby is due any day now and for the first time since the announcement, one sex is emerging as the most popular with eager fans.

According to the bookies, it looks as if Prince William and Kate’s third child will be a boy after a flurry of bets.

Ans according to Betfair, a ‘significant bet’ has led the bookie to temporarily suspend punts on the baby’s sex.

This goes against the two most popular names initially, which were Mary and Alice.

Now Arthur (5/1) and Edward (6/1) top the list.

Katie Baylis from Betfair said: “For months it’s been a two-name race when it comes to the name of the Royal Baby, with Alice and Mary the favourites for some time.

“However a significant bet this morning on the baby to be a boy means we have stopped taking bets on the sex of the baby and now have Arthur as the 5/1 favourite, with Edward at 6/1.

“Mary is now at 6/1, with Alice out to 7/1 as excitement builds towards the birth of the new Royal which could be any day now.”

Some Bookmakers are also offering odds on what day Kate Middleton will give birth to her third child, with St George’s Day (Monday, April 23) the 2/1 favourite of a host of special occasions.

Coral has the baby at 4/1 to arrive on William and Kate’s seventh wedding anniversary on the 29th, while it is 8/1 to share a birthday with the Queen (21st) and 14/1 to share one with Princess Charlotte (2nd of May).

“It’s beginning to look likely that the third Royal baby could arrive in the midst of some other celebrations, with St George’s Day the most likely,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

“The family may well have a few joint birthday parties to look forward to in future too, particularly if the new baby arrives late and shares Charlotte’s 2nd of May birthday.”

Coral has also slashed the odds to 10/11 for the baby to be a boy, with Arthur 5/1 clear favourite name.

Aitkenhead added: “For ages it has seemed like punters were convinced that the baby would be a girl but now all of a sudden we’re seeing a flurry of bets on a boy, and more specifically Arthur.

“We’ve slashed our odds on Arthur to 5-1 from 12-1 in a matter of days and they’ll be a few lucky customers cheering if that prophecy does ring true.”

Odds correct at time of writing and may differ between bookmakers.
