I'm a Celebrity: 5 surprise kings and queens of the jungle

ITV’s flagship reality show has had some surprise winners over the years.

From Atomic Kittens to world champions, the list of jungle royalty is a very mixed bunch.

Here's our top 5 surprise kings and queens of the jungle.

Jungle Kitten — Kerry Katona

The Warrington native and former Atomic Kitten was a definite surprise if you go off what she was like when she first set foot in the jungle.

From the start it looked like she had no chance of surviving the harsh reality show, but through all the challenges she faced, Kerry managed to make it to the end and viewers fell in love with her, making her the first queen of the jungle (see video below).

Now frequenting the Loose Women panel, Kerry has since appeared on Big Brother and Dancing on Ice.

Prime Minister of the Jungle — Carol Thatcher

Being the daughter of one of the most polarising women in British history must be hard for the journalist, but in 2005 Carol won the hearts of the UK public and emerged from the shadow of her late PM mother.

Even the bookies had Carol down for an early exit from the Australian outback.

The second queen of the jungle is just proof that anything can happen on I’m a Celebrity.

Legend Down Under — Carl Fogarty

Arguably the greatest superbike champion of all time, Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty appeared on the show in 2014.

Being the kind of celebrity that is huge to people who know him, but little known outside the motorbike community, Foggy had a lot of people to win over during his stint down under (see video below).

But he succeeded, and since winning, the former world champion has also played matchmaker by setting up his daughter, Danielle, with fellow campmate Jake Quickenden.

Oh no he didn’t… — Christopher Biggins

Most people’s earliest memory of Christopher Biggins is probably from Porridge, where he portrayed a rather camp prisoner called Lukewarm.

However fast forward more than three decades and nobody would have expected the comedy actor to be even considering entering the jungle, let alone winning the whole thing.

Unfortunately the panto star didn’t have as much success in the Big Brother house in 2016—he got the boot after he made a number of offensive comments that were not aired due to potentially causing "widespread offence", according to The Mirror. Talk about a fall from grace.

We canny believe it — Vicky Pattinson

You would be forgiven for not knowing who Vicky was prior to her appearance in I’m a Celeb. Having struggled on reality show Geordie Shore, she tried to boost her fame by entering the infamous jungle.

She managed to win despite being a late entry, which is a feat in itself, but hasn't exactly set the TV world alight since.

She had a brief stint on spin off show Extra Camp, then this year went back into the jungle on the Australian version of I'm a Celebrity, coming fourth.

More recently, Pattison teamed up with Dom Joly for Channel 4's Celebrity Hunted, which sees TV stars going on the run as fugitives to raise money for Stand up to Cancer.
