Olly Murs has revealed he’s looking for pop vocals “unlike any other” as he makes his debut as coach on The Voice.
The 33-year-old singer joins will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Tom Jones in the upcoming ITV series, which starts on January 6.
The new addition is no stranger to TV talent shows, first finding fame on The X Factor in 2009, where he came second.
He went on to sell more than 17 million records worldwide and notched up four UK number one albums and four number one singles, so he certainly knows his way around pop music.
“What I am looking for is someone who isn’t like anyone else already out there,” said Olly. “I want people who are individuals and characters, people who are different. I am looking for a team which is full of individuality and uniqueness.
“There is no point in me trying to compete with Sir Tom Jones or Jennifer Hudson as they are going to go for the big singers, the big divas or operatic singers, so to me I am looking for a pop voice but also people who are unique and charismatic characters.”
Olly hopes to use his own experience of being a reality TV contestant to help him connect with the aspiring singers and offer them much needed advice.

He said: “It helps me to be able to give the contestants my advice and they also know I have been through that experience and I can help and guide them with that.
“If they have any questions they want to ask, I can help them. But when they get to the later stages of the competition it is really about picking the right songs and that is what I want to try and get across to them.
“I hope they have the confidence in me to help them with that but they also need to know themselves and find themselves as an artist.”
As with past shows, the series begins with solo singers and duos competing in the blind auditions in the hope that the coaches hit their buttons and turn their red chairs for them.
They each choose 10 acts for their team before whittling them down through the battle and knockout rounds before making it to the final.
The new series of The Voice UK launches on ITV on January 6, 2018 at 8pm.
