A wealth of British talent makes up the 2018 Oscar nominations, headed up by Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild winner Gary Oldman.

Oldman is hot odds-on favourite at 1/10 to win the gong for the Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour.

Frances McDormand tops the betting at 1/6 to win the Best Actress prize, while Guillermo del Toro is 4/6 to be named the Best Director for his work on The Shape of Water.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Gary Oldham has received a lot of praise for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour and the betting suggests it will be a huge surprise if he was not to win the Best Actor, while Frances McDormand is long odds-on to scoop the Best Actress prize.”

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is the evens favourite with bookmaker Coral to win the Best Picture after the nominations were revealed this morning in Los Angeles.

The Shape of Water is second best in the latest betting at 6/4, while Lady Bird can be backed at 8/1.

Hill added: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has topped the betting to win the Best Picture for a number of months now and after the nominations were revealed for the Academy Awards in March, it remains the strong favourite to win the gong in what could be a good night for those associated with the film.”

The shortlist for the 90th Academy Awards was announced earlier today ahead of the ceremony, which will take place on March 4.
