Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to invite 2,640 members of the public to their wedding

Friday 2nd March 2018

Royal family fans, take a deep breath…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are inviting 2,640 members of the public to attend their wedding in May, hurrah!

In a press release from Kensington Palace, the couple want their wedding day to be “shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations.”

The palace tweeted the news earlier today and received a flurry of excited messages of support for the couple’s decision.

The release said: “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have said they want their Wedding Day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too.

“This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters and values of the bride and groom.”

But before you get too excited, it won’t be just anybody who will be invited – there are certain criteria that you will need to meet.

The release continued: “In addition to the carriage procession in Windsor, they have today shared some further details of how the public will be involved on May 19th.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have invited 2,640 people into the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch the arrivals of the bride and groom, and their wedding guests, at the chapel and to watch the carriage procession as it departs from the castle.”

The lucky people chosen will be split between worthy charity workers, young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served in their communities.

Other guests include local school children, local community members and the rest from the royal household and crown estate.

The breakdown includes 1,200 members of the public, who will be "nominated to attend by nine regional Lord Lieutenant offices".

They will be chosen from “a broad range of backgrounds and ages, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.”

A further 200 people will be from charities the couple have a “close association” with, as well as 100 school pupils from The Royal School St George's School.

The final message quota is for 610 Windsor Castle community members and 530 members of the Royal Household and the Crown Estate.

The wedding will be held in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19.

Earlier this week Reality Bite reported that Mel B all but confirmed that the Spice Girls will be performing at the event – or in the least they have definitely all been invited.

Others who are rumoured to attend are Elton John (1/100 with the bookies), former president Barack Obama (1/3), James Blunt (6/5) and Stephen Fry (3/1).
