Phew. Are we all grateful we don’t have a Prince Albert?
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their third child Louis Arthur Charles, Kensington announced today.
But although he’s not even a week old yet, the latest royal baby is already being weighed up by the bookies for what his future will bring.
Despite being fifth in line to the throne, bookmaker Coral is offering odds of 100/1 that Prince Louis will become King one day.
And yes, that would make him King Louis, like the Jungle Book, bar the alternative spelling.
While it’s highly unlikely that Prince Louis will take the throne, his was 12/1 to be the name of the latest prince before the announcement was made earlier today.
The initial favourite was Arthur, before Albert was randomly thrown into the mix after the royal website seemed to suggest it would be his name.
“Not many punters predicted Louis in the Royal baby name betting so it has proved to be a little bit of a surprise, to the relief of the bookmakers who feared the late gamble on Albert,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“The betting suggests it is unlikely that the new prince will ever come to the throne, however, that has not stopped many people backing the baby to become King one day."
Elsewhere in Coral’s Royal specials, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are odds-on at 1-2 to announce they are expecting a baby later in 2018, William and Kate are 2-1 to have a fourth baby, while the Queen is 3-1 to abdicate at any point this year.
