Who are the new I’m a Celebrity campmates, and will they be any good?

Thursday 23rd November 2017

Two new campmates entered the I’m A Celebrity… jungle this week, but who are they and why are they famous?

Comedian Iain Lee and Kezia Dugdale might be familiar faces from the world of TV and politics.

But what did they do before entering the Australian camp? And what can we expect they’ll bring to the show?

Here’s all you need to know about the two new contestants.

Iain Lee

Comedian Iain Lee was born Iain Lee Rougvie in Slough on June 9, 1973.

He started on the stand-up circuit in London before moving into broadcasting in 1998 when he was picked up by Channel 4.

Iain, 44, is best known for hosting The 11 O’Clock Show from 1998 to 2000 alongside Mackenzie Crook and Daisy Donovon.

The popular show also launched the careers of comedians Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen, aka Ali G.

After the show ended, Iain was still presenting on radio station Xfm London, which he did from 1999 until 2001.

In 2003 he headed up Channel 4’s RI:SE, a morning entertainment show, with Big Brother star Kate Lawler.

He has almost too many TV credits and radio presenting jobs to mention, including stints on LBC, Absolute Radio and talkRADIO.

Iain’s recent work includes running live events such as comedy night Set The Agenda in Camden, north London.

Kezia Dugdale

Kezia Alexandra Ross Dugdale was born in Aberdeen on August 28, 1981.

She started working in politics in 2006 sitting on Scottish Labour’s Policy Forum and later serving as an election agent.

Kezia, 36, was political adviser to MSP George Foulkes before her eventual election in 2011.

She was elected into Scottish Parliament in that year, and in 2015 became the leader of Scottish Labour.

But in 2017 she resigned and said it was time to “pass on the baton” to someone else – that person being Richard Leonard.

This year, it was reported that Kezia is in a relationship with MSP Jenny Gilruth.

She was in hot water with Scottish Parliament after it was reported she did not inform them she would be out of the country for I’m A Celeb.

But Scottish Labour confirmed she would not be suspended.

Kezia also revealed that she would be donating her parliament salary she will receive while in the jungle (£2,500) to charity.

What will they bring to the show?

Comedian Iain Lee is bound to bring a few laughs to the camp with his quirky sense of humour.

But the dad-of-two revealed he wanted to do it to show his kids he is on the TV.

He said: “I’ve been asked before but the timing has never been right.

“But this time, I decided it was. I am 44, my kids are seven and five and they haven’t really seen me on the telly.

“They don’t know what Daddy used to do. They will find it funny watching me.”

As for Kezia, she’s bound to talk politics with the other contestants – especially former MP Stanley.

She also said she sees the show as an opportunity to appeal to young people to vote Labour.

Kezia said: “I'm A Celebrity is a huge UK wide television programme with an audience into the millions.

“I think it's an amazing opportunity to talk to young people who watch this programme about politics and in particular labour values.”
