The Annie Lennox lookalike SuRie has all the pedigree to make a half decent effort for the UK at this year's Eurovision.
The fans who initially got behind the song Storm after it won the national selection, have abandoned it to follow the likes of Israel, Australia, Cyprus and Finland, but it is a dark horse in my opinion.
Susanna Marie who has shortened her name to SuRie is a classically trained musician and graduate from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Her musical style is influenced by piano singer-songwriters including Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Billy Joel and Alicia Keys. More recently, she’s has leant on the poetic, cinematic story telling work of Emiliana Torrini, Ry X, Agnes Obel and Imogen Heap.
Her debut LP, Something Beginning With... was the culmination of a writing and recording process that took SuRie from London to Greece, via Australia, New York, Sweden, LA and Borneo; from her home recording studio in the UK to the state of the art Malmö Live in Sweden.
No stranger to Eurovision, SuRie’s journey started in 2015 where she was a backing dancer and vocalist for Loïc Nottet who finished fourth for Belgium with the song Rhythm Inside.
She returned again with the Belgian's in 2017, supporting Blanche and City Lights as Musical Director, also placing fourth.
