Strictly Come Dancing judges

The competitors on Strictly face a panel of Judges after every dance who critique them on their technical ability, their creative flair and their story telling. The judges then mark the couple out of 10 and the cumulative score is announced by Tess Daly in the green room.

The couple with the highest score on the programme receives the highest number of points the and the same happens with the public phone voting. The two scores are added up and the two couples with the lowest score then have to repeat their performance in 'The Dance Off' and the judges then decide who will stay and who will go. In the case of a tie Len Goodman the senior Strictly Come Dancing Judge has the fina decision.

Len Goodman Small

The senior Judge on the show is Len Goodman, notoriously learnt to dance in an attempt to recover from an injury to his foot incurred when playing football, and was keen to continue with his new pursuit when he realised he had greater access to the fairer sex than on the football field. Winning The British Ballroom Championships in his twenties, he set up a dance school in Dartfordand won The Carl Alan Award for outstanding contribution to Dance.

On Strictly he is the voice of reason the grounded, no nonsense Northerner who is a stickler for technique, but will always recognize effort and enthusiasm in the less naturally talented.

Bruno Toniol Small

In contrast to Len, Bruno Tonioli is one of the most flamboyant judges on the show. The accomplished Italian Dancer turned choreographer wiho had stints with both the Paris based company La Grande Eugene and the Lyndsey Kemp Company has had numerous credits on television from Not The Nine O Clock News to French and Saunders.

Enthused and energized by andy show of passion whilst Bruno s critiques are often voluble, manically gesturing as he orates, like Len he too makes reasonable allowances for the new dance apprentices, at least in the first few weeks. As the celebrities approach the end of the series Bruno is reputed as becoming more technically picky.

Craig Revel Horwood Small

Craig always sits at the opposite end of the desk to Bruno and it is not a suprising decision by the producers. Whilst seen as the bad guy on the panel, unafraid to slate lack of conviction or lack of performance, his delivery whilst clipped is as camp as Bruno's. These two judges often disagree violently with each other although there is a reassuring sense of pantomime about their protestations

Australian Horwood began his career in Melbourne, moving to London to choreograph amongst others, West End Shows, Spend Spend Spend and My One And Only, both of which secured him Laurence Olivier Award Nominations for Best Choreography. The most reluctant to offer maximum points and often visibly frustrated by the ineptitude of the contestants, getting him on side has to a major aim of any particpant.

Darcey Bussell Small

Britains greatest ballerina for the last two decades, Darcey Bussell joined the panel of Strictly Judges for the last three shows in the 2009 series. Adding glamour and gravitas to the proceedings she is reputed as enjoying the fact that Strictly brings dances to the masses although does not look altogether comfortable in her new role. Charm and grace have always been her traits and those qualities have not left her on her outings on Saturday night television. She became a fixed and regular member of the panel in 2012 when Alesha Dixon left.
