Nicole Scerzinger| Final three| X Factor| Live Shows| 2013| Girls

Nicole Scherzinger Small

With by far the biggest selection of talent in the Girls category it was always going to be very difficult for Nicole Scherzinger to choose three finalists from the last six, albeit that she was ably assisted by Mary J. Blige. With less tears from Nicole than expected, but more then made up for by the abundance of tears from the contestants, added to the backdrop of Antigua,  made for good TV.

Few were surprised to see Tamera sail through to the Live Shows, having been compared to Leona Lewis in the auditions and possessing the look and sound of a ready made pop star. She has to be a real favourite to win the competition but the producers milked the decision for all it was worth. For the first time Nicole delayed her decision at Judges' Houses and asked Tamera to go away whilst she made her final assessment. At sixteen, Tamera is one of the youngest in the competition and with a history of having gone off the rails in her early teens, there is clearly a concern that the pressure of the X Factor process will be too much.

Hannah was one of Nicole's Final Six who was going to have to work for her place in the LIve Shows, although her back story of a tough urban childhood clearly brought out the saviour in Scherzinger. Hannah is undoubtedly talented with an old soul voice, reminiscent of Nina Simone, which certainly has the power to move the audience. With a haunting lower range to her voice this 17 year old will have to be careful however that she does not overstretch her vocal chords. Eager to please and practise, Hannah lost her voice at Judges' Houses and she will have to be wary that this does not happen again.

Northern Irish Abi Alton is as far away in style from Tamera and Hannah as is possible. With a whimsical look, the ability to play both guitar and piano, she has an aura of folk about her. However, her delicate interpretation and perfect pitch can be every bit as mesmerising as the other two girls. With Sharon's category filled to the hilt with 'belters', Abi will stand out from the crowd and could go a long way. Uncannily resembling fellow Norhen Irish girl Andrea Begley, who won The Voice, Abi will be hopeful that she too can take the prize back over the channel.
